Spiritual Growth
As Christians we strive to encompass all aspects of our life with our faith. That is why it is important to emphasize our focus on spiritual growth. We hope the relationships created between a mentor and mentee will allow mentees to seek help about any spiritual life challenges through advice, prayer, and sharing the word of God. Mentors will provide mentees with support and guidance to help strengthen their faith with a loving heart, a listening ear and comforting voice. These relationships will enrich the spiritual life of both the mentor and mentee.
Social Growth
High school is a time of extreme pressure from friends, family and school and it doesn’t get easier from there. Mentors will support students by giving them tools to develop lasting critical social skills and provide positive life enriching experiences. They will advance skills such as verbal/non verbal communication, prioritization, and conscious awareness. The techniques and skills they learn will prepare them for their personal and professional careers. Social growth also encompasses self growth and actualization. It is important to focus on ones internal self before their external presence. Their relationships with their mentor will foster their capabilities, needs, and passions. Mentees will unlock their growth potential, and become their “ideal self.”
Professional Growth
Academic and professional mentorship is vital to this program. As most of our students are first generation, there is a disadvantage when seeking help in these aspects of life. “Led by example.” Most of our mentors have been through the same educational barriers and professional challenges that our mentees will face. This means our mentors will be able to help mentees discern between right and wrong decisions. They will help them navigate their education leading into their professional careers. When pairing the mentor we will accommodate similar educational and career interests of the mentee so that their relationship can benefit the growth of the mentee. Mentees will carve out their individual unique paths based on their interests, abilities so that mentors can guide them to achieving their highest aspirations.
